Scratchpad for converting a mostly stock 1999 MX5 into a thing worthy for the Nürburgring (eventually)
Having talked about going to the Ring since forever, my buddy Mike called me up one night: “You, me, my Midlife Crisis, Nürburgring, September”. He’d bought a Nissan 350Z and decided it was time. Returning home after a long trip with nothing broken except a scratched rear quarter panel (it would buff out, relax), I knew I was coming back, and if I was going to destroy something down there it was not going to be Mike’s 350Z or anybody else’s automobile. Looking at the alternatives for cheap RWD fun where parts and upgrades are equally cheap (yeah right) and plentiful, there is basically only one option (that’ll be “was” now, the cheap option is mostly gone since I bought mine in September 2020) so a 1999 1.8 Mazda MX5 was found and purchased. This is the story of how not to modify one of those and how not to save money doing it.
